Telegram Introduces NFT Gifts Feature allowing users to send digital gifts to friends and convert them into “Stars.” Pavel Durov, the founder of Telegram, announced this innovative addition on October 6, emphasizing its potential to enhance user interaction and gift-giving experiences.
The new Gifts feature enables users to celebrate important moments by sending animated digital gifts accompanied by personalized messages. Upon receipt, these gifts can optionally be displayed on the recipient’s profile or converted into Telegram Stars. Stars act as an internal currency within Telegram, which can be used to support content creators or purchase services in Telegram’s mini-apps.

To send a gift, users simply need to visit the recipient’s profile and select the option to send a gift. They can include personalized messages and emojis with their gifts, and there’s even an option to conceal their name, so only the recipient knows the sender’s identity.
A notable aspect of these gifts is their limited edition versions, which users can convert into non-fungible tokens (NFTs) on the TON network in the future. Once converted, these NFTs will be tradable and auctionable outside of Telegram, with ownership permanently recorded on the blockchain.
In addition to the Gifts feature, Telegram has introduced a new platform for businesses that simplifies the verification of user phone numbers. For just $0.01 per user, businesses can send verification codes through Telegram, making the process faster, cheaper, and more secure than traditional SMS or other alternatives. Users will receive these codes instantly in a dedicated chat within Telegram.
Moreover, Telegram has made significant improvements to video chats and content reporting methods, enhancing security and user experience. These changes not only introduce new capabilities but also solidify Telegram’s position as a versatile platform for communications and businesses.
How to Send a Gift on Telegram
Sending a gift on Telegram is an engaging way to celebrate occasions or send special messages. To send a gift, follow these steps:
- Go to the profile of the intended recipient.
- Click on the three-dot icon (⋮ or ⋯) at the top of the profile page.
- Select “Send a Gift” from the dropdown menu.
- Choose your desired gift and optionally include a personalized message or emoji.
- If desired, you can hide your name, so only the recipient knows who sent the gift.
- Finally, send your gift.
Recipients can display these gifts in a new section called “Gifts” on their profile or convert them into Stars for other purchases within Telegram.
Currently, this feature is activated for Telegram Premium accounts, marking an exciting development in user engagement on the platform.
