Litecoin Social Media Account Hacked: Fake Token Promoted to Mislead Crypto Users

On January 11, Litecoin’s (LTC) official social media account was temporarily hacked by an attacker who promoted a fake Litecoin token on the Solana (SOL) network.

The hacker posted a misspelled message that read, “LTC is now on Solana,” along with a contract address and a link to the fraudulent token hosted on the website pump.fun.

After regaining control of the account, the Litecoin team clarified that the breach occurred due to unauthorized access to a subsidiary account, which has since been removed to prevent further issues.

This incident is part of a broader trend of social media account hacks targeting the crypto space in recent months. Hackers often use these breaches to promote fake tokens or phishing links, aiming to steal users’ funds and sensitive information.

For instance, on October 18, the account of the EigenLayer protocol was compromised, with attackers sharing malicious links under the guise of a fake “Season 2 Stakedrop” campaign. Similarly, on November 3, the account of rapper Wiz Khalifa was hacked to advertise a fake meme coin called WIZ.

On December 8, the Cardano Foundation’s account fell victim to hackers who promoted a counterfeit token named “ADAsol,” falsely claiming it had replaced Cardano’s original ADA token. Before the scam was exposed, ADAsol briefly garnered $500,000 in trading volume but subsequently lost 99% of its value.

The hacking spree continued on December 26, when Yat Siu, co-founder of Web3 company Animoca Brands, had his account compromised. The attacker promoted a fake meme coin on the Solana network, misleadingly named after Animoca Brands, though the company had no connection to it.

These incidents highlight the growing need for enhanced security measures across social media platforms and within the crypto community to protect users from such fraudulent activities.
